Voula is a visual artist and illustrator whose work is characterised by expressive figurative imagery, texture and an intuitive approach to composition. Working across painting and illustration, she combines a sensitivity to colour and form with a strong interest in the emotional qualities of an image.

 

Her practice draws on more than 25 years of experience in graphic design, branding and publishing. This background informs her understanding of visual storytelling and composition, while her artwork allows for a more personal and exploratory approach to image-making. Her works balance considered structure with expressive mark-making, attending to how an image feels as well as what it communicates.

For her proposed exhibition with musician and artist Vanessa Fernandez, Voula will bring this visual language into dialogue with music. The collaboration will explore the relationship between sound, image and emotional experience, bringing their distinct practices together through a shared sensitivity to atmosphere, texture and feeling.
